Koo: The Rise of India’s own Twitter

The app, founded by entrepreneurs Mayank Bidawatka and Aprameya Radhakrishna, has already had 20 million downloads, which explains its emerging popularity as a native Twitter alternative.

Koo was launched in the early part of the 2020s. However, the platform received its deserving spotlight when it won the Atmanirbhar App Innovation Challenge conducted by the Indian government. Winning this challenge propelled the app on several people’s focus, ultimately giving it a much-needed push. Koo is available on both Android and iOS. The app’s features are similar to Twitter. Here, you can write messages and share them in different formats (video or audio). Besides, you can send a text message consisting of a maximum of 400 characters called Koo. However, the app’s USP lies in the availability of local languages. The app enables users to send or receive messages in ten Indian languages.

Some multiple politicians and celebrities have joined Koo. Luckily, the app got sudden yet profitable endorsements that have helped increase its user base.

Recent IT rules and Koo’s stand

Koo follows the recent IT regulations announced by the Indian government. The app has also undertaken the Voluntary Code of Ethics in order to protect Assembly elections related content. Moreover, It has adopted multiple content moderation rules that check offensive content and hate speech. Koo aims to remain unbiased amidst political turbulences in India.
