Adani Defence & Aerospace Acquire Mro Company Air Works

As a strategic foray into enhancing its aviation portfolio, Adani Defence Systems And Technologies Limited (ADSTL) has entered a share purchase agreement to buy an 85.8% stake in Air Works India (Engineering) Pvt. Ltd. for an enterprise value of ₹400 crore. This acquisition has enhanced Adani Defence & Aerospace’s presence in India’s aviation sector, marking an important milestone toward strengthening the country’s maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities.

First Mover Advantage in MRO Expansion

Air Works is India’s largest private-sector MRO company. It offers various aviation services, including line maintenance, heavy checks, interior refurbishment, painting, redelivery checks, avionics, and asset management services. The company operates from Hosur, Mumbai, and Kochi facilities, providing base maintenance for narrow-body, turboprop, and rotary aircraft.

With regulatory approvals from over 20 countries’ civil aviation authorities, Air Works serves both domestic and international customers. The company is also a leader in defence MRO, executing critical projects for the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force.

Adani’s Vision for India’s Aviation Sector

Jeet Adani, Adani Airports Director said that the growth in the Indian aviation sector has been tremendous. “The Indian aviation industry stands at a transformative juncture now, becoming the third-largest globally and slated to add over 1,500 aircraft to its fleet in the near future,” he said. He further mentioned that the focus on air connectivity by the government has created unprecedented opportunities for aviation services.

This move further comes under the mission of the Adani Group to make an integrated ecosystem of aviation services. “Together, we look forward to playing a significant role in determining the future of India’s skies,” said Jeet Adani.

Strengthening Self-Reliance in Defence

Ashish Rajvanshi, the CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace, said, “The acquisition supports the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.” “Our vision is to offer a full-spectrum MRO solution for both the commercial and defence aviation sectors,” he added.

He further said that scaling of domestic MRO capabilities would be important for India’s sovereignty and security. “This is our pledge to the nation—to build capabilities that strengthen our armed forces and the broader aviation ecosystem,” Rajvanshi added.

Adani Defence & Aerospace: Driving the Future

As a subsidiary of the Adani Group, Adani Defence & Aerospace has a specialization in designing and manufacturing high-end defence products. The deal is a key milestone towards creating a fully fledged aviation services ecosystem as part of the commitment by the company to support India’s aviation infrastructure and capabilities.

The landmark deal not only strengthens the MRO capability in India but also the leadership of the Adani Group in the global space of aviation and defence.
