Animal Aid Unlimited – A Solace to Injured Animals

It is the compassion and passion of an American born in Australia that led Claire Abrams to become a social activist and co-founder of Animal Aid Unlimited, a non-profit organisation that helps animals. Her family moved to Udaipur when she was in the ninth grade. Her love and compassion for street animals is the driving force behind the NGO. Although, she is an American who speaks Hindi fluently.

A Voice for the Voiceless

Although Claire dreams to be a professional football player as a child, but after moving to India, she developed a fondness for stray animals. She enjoys singing in her leisure time and considers everyone who cares for animals as a friend since they share her passion for the voiceless.

Moved by the Plight of Street Animals

Her family has always been animal lovers however, they were inspired to build a hospital and rescue centre (Animal Aid) after seeing the poor conditions of street animals in Udaipur. They saw that government hospital treated dairy cows and goats but there was no such facility for street animals. It is painful to see that street animals are struck by automobiles, hurt by people, or sickened by the human waste they are allowed to die on the streets.

Educating the People about Animal’s plight

Animal Aid Unlimited purpose is to provide support to animals in need. Street animals, primarily cows, donkeys, and dogs, are the focus. The NGO devotes almost 99 percent of all donations to the rescue, treatment, hospitalisation, and sanctuary of street animals, as well as associated humane education to educate the community about the needs of both street and commercial animals, and how everyone can help.

Backed by locals

The NGO lacked medical knowledge to give the professional care that the rescued animals required, but they began working with local doctors who treat stray dogs and worked to teach them in various regions around India. They also received help from various animal clinics that provided help to the NGO, including surgery and medical training for their physicians. Locals have also shown their support for the NGO, with many calling to report suffering animals.

Achievements Accomplished

Animal Aid organised large number of rabies vaccination camps that resulted in the vaccination of over 13,000 street dogs. Its Humane Education Program has touched over 150 schools in Udaipur. Animal Aid is proud to rescue over 30,000 injured and sick animals in Udaipur since 2002 and is on a mission to make the lives of stray animals better!
