Many women avoid regular painful tests for detecting breast cancer due to radiation, breast touch screening, privacy concerns, etc. However, this can result in a late diagnosis of the disease, which can be fatal. Women can now get radiation-free, non–invasive, non–touch breast cancer tests through Dr. Geetha Manjunath’s NIRAMAI. She has developed a new technique which is her award-winning deep-tech start-up.
Let us know more about NIRAMAI’s brief and inspiring journey which is helping women a lot.
About Niramai: The Journey of Leaving an MNC to Start NIRAMAI
Dr. Manjunath’s research for thermal imaging lasted for two years, but she observed that while this technique was performing admirably well, it was not flawless. As a result of this, Dr. Manjunath, together with three of her colleagues, left an MNC to focus solely on developing a non–invasive device that could identify problems and abnormalities related to breast.
Radiation free Testing:
Thermalytix is NIRAMAI’s core technology, analyzes thermal pictures using a high–resolution thermal sensor device and a cloud-hosted AI-based solution. The radiation-free, non–invasive test is performed behind a curtain that separates the operator and the patient. This implies that women with a family history of breast cancer can have their breasts examined every six months without having to worry about the harmful side effects of radiation.
Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML):
Critical in the Fight against Breast Cancer
According to Dr. Geeta Manjunath, we could provide smarter objective interpretation and data-based decision-making for this imaging diagnosis by adding AI and ML to software that analyses thermal pictures.
NIRAMAI Health Analytix’s disease-fighting method relies heavily on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). In 2016, Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) was used to enhance breast cancer survival rates by enabling early detection.
Within a Few Years of its Debut, NIRAMAI Received Several Honours
According to CB Insights, NIRAMAI is the sole Indian start–up on the 2019 Top AI 100 startups list. The firm has also received several accolades, including the Gold prize at Hack Osaka, the Aegis Graham Bell Award, the Frost & Sullivan Award, and others.
Conclusion
Dr. Geeta Manjunath’s vision makes the seemingly impossible seem achievable. Dr. Manjunath says that NIRAMAI is not limited to breast cancer detection alone, and research is being conducted on using Thermalytix for screening other types of cancers. The company has also been approved by CE Mark and intends to expand to European and African countries as well.
