Agritech venture Stellapps is a tech-driven, end-to-end, dairy-led food value chain platform that leverages advanced analytics and AI to enable dairy ecosystem partnerships. The company has raised over $37 million in 12 rounds since its inception in 2011.
The Journey
The venture was created by Ranjith Mukundan, Ravishankar G. Shiroor, Praveen Nale, Ramakrishna Adukuri, and Venkatesh Seshasayee, to empower dairy farmers to improve productivity and profitability through the use of digitized supply chain solutions.
Over the years Bengaluri-based Stellapps has emerged as an integral part of the dairy supply system by providing value-added services like dairy market linkages, agro-inputs, and even financial services to the small farmers.
The startup is an IIT Madras incubated, Bangalore-based IOT venture with a primary focus on data acquisition and machine learning. The venture’s strength lies in its successful leveraging of the Internet of Things and Cloud technology to streamline the milk value chain.
Stellapps works across 42,000 villages and over 3 million Indian farmers including 68% women farmers and its innovations and processes have resulted in high farmer profitability leading to an increase in farmers’ income.
Services Offered
Stellapps digitizes and optimizes milk production, procurement, and cold chain management through its SmartMoo platform and helps dairy farmers and cooperatives maximize their profits while reducing the effort involved.The company launched three services between 2018 and 2021.
- Procurement– Stellapps’ market linkage service vertical MooMark procures 1.5 lack liters of milk every day from farmers across different regions of India.
- Funding– The venture’s fintech wing MooPay is working to create financial inclusion and economic empowerment of small farmers by offering loans and insurance.
- Inputs- farm inputs vertical MooGrow is providing hyper-local access to high-quality agro inputs and farm equipment through the smartFarms app and village-level collection centers.
Stellapps is the only aritech company in India, that has been granted a patent for its innovation “Herd Management System”.
Future Plans
The company now plans to create a food value chain for other products like sweetcorn, spices, and seedless watermelon. On the milk front, Stellapps plans to expand into whey powder, flavoured paneer, buffalo paneer, and many other
dairy-related products.
Ownership Structure
According to Tracxn data, Funds own nearly 73% of Stellapp’s shares while the founders hold 18.50% with the remaining held by enterprises, ESOPs, and angel investors.
