The story of Founder ‘Physics Wallah’, Alakh Pandey who started a humble coaching center, where he taught Physics to students at Praygraj. Physics Wallah is an Unicorn and Alakh its CEO, has a famous YouTube channel in Edutech category. Currently Physics Wallah is working on a project where they can offer to students one o one suggestion and guidance for career growth.

Alakh started from a humble coaching center to famous YouTube Channel to Unicorn who received funding as a startup in Edutech category. We all have heard about the famous Youtube channel based on Physics education and its founder Alakh Pandey whose journey began from a humble coaching institute in Allahabad.
Alakh taught Physics to students preparing for students at 10th & 12 standards along with those preparing for JEE.
Alakh saw there was scarcity of physics teachers in his place and his love for teaching and acting made him drop out from engineering and he went back to native place at Prayagraj to teach students physics at minimum fees. Thus began his journey and became his student’s favorite teacher. Soon he started his YouTube channel in 2016 where he taught by uploading videos on physics for 10th standard and that filled the gap.
The channel ‘Physics Wallah’ saw huge breakthrough when pandemic had stuck and students went online mode there was huge competition and Alakh knew it would be difficult to swim in the sea where there are already big giants operating. So he launched his APP named ‘Physics Wallah’ in 2020 and that crashed the day it was launched with heavy traffic.

At the time when Physics Wallah (PW) started operation many Edutech companies were giving tough competition to them.
When Physics Walla’s Youtube channel started to grow from 4 thousand to 2 million between 2017-2019, Alakh found it difficult to manage all alone.
Alakh pulled in his friend Prateek Maheshwari, IIT BHU graduate to join as a cofounder and help in scaling up the business.
Impact on students:
Alakh and Prateek realised that if he had to impact his students lives he have to go big and be more visible. By 2020, Physics Wallah became India’s largest IIT-JEE channel on YouTube, with over 90 lakh subscribers.
In this way Physics Wallah made remarkable impact on students far and wide across the country that couldn’t get access to right knowledge learning on Physics via videos on YouTube making learning easy and fun.
Now the time came when Physics Wallah faced a tough time as other Edutech companies were hiring tutors with hire fees and many tutors thronged them to join at hire rates.
Funding that made ‘Physics Wallah’ Unicorn
Students after pandemic still wanted to join online classes and this was a challenge. Physics Wallah (P.W.) as a brand had to expand to cater to demands from across the country and this led them to raise funds for first time since inception.
Subsequently they raised $100 million from Westbridge Capital and GSV Ventures in June 2022 and the company valuation stood to $1.1 billion.

After the funding Physics Walla started one expansion plans as it was requirement, and demand was growing from every corner of the country.
Physics Walla now launching courses in regional languages like Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada, Odia, etc., to cater to students of other languages.
The company plans to launch courses for test preparation for post-graduate students like National Exit Test (NEXT) & Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).
From a humble beginning to achieving great success having confidence of students across the country is a great feet to achieve. Currently the company employs 1,900 people, including 500 teachers and more than 200 associate teachers.
