Tejas S Shah, Head IT – Infrastructure & cyber security, Prince Pipes and Fittings is an experienced Information Technology Professional with over 21 years of experience.

Tejas Shah is currently the Head IT at Prince Pipes and Fittings Ltd, overseeing IT infrastructure, networking, IT projects, cloud management, budgeting, and digital transformation. With a strong background in IT operations, information security, project management, Tejas has won over many accolades over the years from the industry.

Over the years we have witnessed Tejas coming a soft spoken, quite shy guy who has extensive experience in various organization like Axis Finance Limited, HDFC Bank Ltd, and Sify Technologies Limited.

For Tejas Shah, Leadership in tech involves guiding teams, most importantly managing people , process, and technology. This involves mixture of various innovation and Digitization within an organization.

Tejas elaborates changes in technology, demands that leaders be more agile, informed, and proactive. They must foster a culture of innovation, continuously develop their own and their team’s skills, and make strategic decisions that leverage new technologies to drive business success.

Daya Prakash from Talentonlease interviewed Teja S Shah recently and we got few glimpse on his leadership journey.

With an MBA in IT from Thakur Institute of Management Studies and Research, Tejas has a solid foundation in information management. He has been the Information Technology vertical Team in Infrastructure / Info Security / Application with a demonstrated history of working in the various Industry domains.

Tejas started in the IT domain from support engineer and then gradually grew with the objective of transforming the end user experience and creating a futuristic Scalable Technology infrastructure foundation.

With digitization managing the various IT domains has been fast forwarding and given steep growth in terms of overall learning and managing the work.

As his career grew many changes happened and every organization he joined there was always new learning domains that he had to manage and support.

What inspired to pursue a career in the field of technology?

Tejas says during his schooling days, there was always interest in Computers on how it work, functions, operates. In lines with same, had started my first 3 years computers course that includes various software / hardware and technology related.

Once this course started, he made up his mind to take up profession in IT and this triggered to select career in IT domain.

Technology and Leadership

How do you see technology changing leadership dimension?

As per Tejas technological changes have a profound impact on leadership in several ways. Leaders in the tech industry must adapt the ever changing technology that competitors uses and the market demands.

Staying Updated: Leaders need to keep up with the latest technological advancements adaptation to changes, new trends, and tools. continuous learning and developments.

Encouraging Innovation: involves creating an environment where team members feel safe to take risks and try new ideas.

Attracting Talent: Staying current with technological trends can help attract top talent who want to work with the latest tools and technologies.

Understanding Customer Needs: Leveraging technology to better understand and meet customer needs. This can include using data analytics, AI, and other tools to gain insights and improve the user experience

Data Privacy and Security: Ensuring that new technologies are implemented with a strong focus on data privacy and security.

Mantra for success in IT as a leader for Tejas is Keep learning, always to keep proper collaboration within teams and users, vision to have customer/end user centric focus.

Biggest challenge

Probably one of the biggest challenges is to manage people/end users and Team. Once has to be on both side:

  • Top Management end and Team end – both expectations has to be fulfiled to ensure organization’s benefits.
  • As we always say ‘People, Process, Technology – These 3 are as always the key aspects that challenges you in terms of your ability to understand,  analyse , resolve and learn’.

Biggest career accomplishment so far

I would definitely like to mention my 11 year sting in one of the Top bank is one of my major accomplishments in terms of managing, learning and support both my upwards and downwards people.

As per Tejas the bottom line is ‘leadership in tech is about guiding a team to harness technology effectively to drive innovation, achieve business goals, and create value for customers and internal stakeholders’.

Long-term career goals

Always stay focus on resolving the issue from root, Try to be in End User’s shoes and understand the pain points and resolve as overall for maximum benefits.

Always try to understand the business process and benefits and then align your goals w.r.t to Technology and Upper management. At the end strong understanding of technology to make informed decisions with team’s confidence is a must. His greatest strength involves having Trust in people and patience.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice received was ‘Keep your self-updated with latest happening, Look for longer sustainable approaches rather than small bits and pieces’.

What is the one advice you would like to give people to become their best?

  • Everything has its own time however you need to ensure that you don’t have to wait and keep giving your best shot every time,
  • Discipline: Keep doing the best work and results will follow.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

  • To redo /undo any technical changes implemented that caused the failure during any Project implementation 
  • Equal Increments / bonus to all identified deserving team champions

Could you tell us about a charity or cause that is important to you?

Donation to Kids orphanage is something that always means to me and like to do more in future. As a part of one charity activity, had visited lastly to elderly home house for food and fruits.

Tejas has few favorite hobby that includes Travelling and Photography.

At the end of our discussion Tejas had some interesting points to share and this include Encouraging a culture of innovation, where team members feel empowered to experiment and think creatively.

Team Development: Focusing on the growth and development of team members. This includes mentoring, providing opportunities for professional development.

Communication: Bridge the gap between technical teams and other end user / business departments within the organization.

Customer Focus: Keeping the end-user in mind and ensuring that technology solutions meet their needs and expectations. This involves gathering feedback and iterating on products and services.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Working effectively with other departments such as marketing, sales, and operations to ensure technology initiatives support overall business objectives.
