Greenwear is a B2B and B2C garment brand based in Lucknow that uses solar-powered equipment to make yarns, textiles, and outfits.
Founder’s Background and Vision
Abhishek after completing his graduation at NIFT-Delhi, had kickstarted his professional career with a US-based home furnishing brand as a product development designer.
Abhishek quickly devised a business plan to build a sustainable fashion firm using solar chakras, looms, and sewing machines, and incorporated his company, Greenwear Fashion, in 2016.
How the Idea Originated
Abhishek was instantly interested in exploiting this breakthrough to launch a business after seeing a solar charkha, or domestic spinning wheel, designed by IIT-Delhi and the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Rural Industrialization (MGIRI)-Wardha.
Journey
Despite the fact that the company was created in 2016, it did not begin operations until 2019. The founder was introduced to khadi and the difficulties limiting its growth potential while working as a lead craft designer for three years.
Market Size
Greenwear involves about 5,000 rural women, 480 weavers and 180 artisans across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Apart from creating jobs for women in rural areas, the company earned Rs 2.5 crore in FY20 and Rs 2 crore in FY21, respectively.
USP in the Market
The company has decentralised yarn and fabric production and established an in-house unit for final garment stitching. The organization offers training and financial aid to women who want to purchase their own chakras.
How Greenwear is Redefining the Market
In terms of competition, the startup claims to be the only one adopting this business model and value chain in the market. Apart from creating their e-commerce store in 2022, the entrepreneurs want to quadruple the startup’s capacity with 3-5x revenue growth.
