As we all know, modern technology has opened up a world of opportunities in the medical field. We can now check diabetes at home with a glucometer, perform a pregnancy test at home, and even a Covid test at home! Yes! Covid Test tools are also available in the market. Without a question, science and technology have made our lives easier. As a result, many treatments and checkups can be performed in the convenience of our own homes. However, it is still the difficult route for renal patients who must undergo dialysis every week, if not more frequently. Traveling frequently and having dialysis has become even more difficult for these patients, especially during Covid and the sudden shutdown of businesses. This is where the Renal initiative comes in.

The Renal project

Shashank Moddhia established the Renal project in Mumbai. The main goal is to make a change for the growing number of kidney patients. Every year, approximately 200,000 new chronic kidney patients are added to the current population. The Renal project aims to improve access to dialysis treatment by facilitating home dialysis and opening dialysis units across the nation. Home dialysis, one of the primary goals of the Renal project, provides patients with numerous benefits. It enables patients to have a calm and comfortable treatment experience from the convenience of their own homes.

Advantages of Home Dialysis

Home dialysis allows for longer and slower dialysis sessions than a typical hospital session, which can enhance kidney function and boost life expectancy. Patients can choose a timetable that works with the rest of their lives. These small decisions make them happy, which has a significant effect on their mental health. Patients’ risks of infection, stress, and fatigue are reduced because long distance travel is prevented. According to research, patients who have a comfortable dialysis treatment can decrease their additional medications. With more dialysis units and home dialysis alternatives available today, dialysis can be convenient and comfortable for both patients and carers.

The Mastermind of the Renal Project

Shashank Moddhia, the Renal project’s founder, has an expertise in biomedical research. He recognised the issue and was ready to open the dialysis centres before the Pandemic struck, causing one of the most difficult periods for the country’s kidney patients. Fortunately, the success rate was discovered to be 100%, and approximately 150 patients had full advantages by March 2021.

Shashank’s primary goal is to construct 1000 dialysis centres across the country and easily deliver 10,000 dialysis treatments every day. Shashank appeared on Shark Tank to help shape this objective to its full potential. All of the sharks on the programme praised the motivation and execution. Shashank attracted two sharks to the Renal project: Namita Thapar, CEO of Emcure Pharmaceuticals, and Aman Gupta, Co-founder and CMO of boAt Lifestyle.
